On these WebPages you will find information about the current and past
research projects in our group.
Research
Projects
The research projects are concentrated in fields 3-D,
X-ray and Optical Light Imaging, Stereoscopy, Material Identification,
3-D Information Extraction, 3-D Display Technique and X-ray machine
development.
Historical
Overview
The research group has been in existence for some 20 years.
Initially the work involved developing a general theory for the characterisation of
stereoscopic imaging packages.
This subsequently led to the construction and evaluation of a variety of 3-D imaging systems.
Principal amongst these have been:
A fully flexible stereoscopic television camera system.
The application of photogrammetric measurement techniques to 3-D television displays.
Optical-feedback using a 3-D TV system to provide manipulator arm control.
The development of novel stereoscopic imaging and measurement techniques using
line-scan cameras.
3-D X-ray imaging systems with co-ordinate and volumetric measurement capability.
Patents
and Publications
The work of the group involves both basic and applied research as well as undertaking
consultancy work on a commercial basis.
As a result a number of significant patents have been awarded for innovative developments
within the group.
Current work involves the development of solid modelling techniques applied to
stereoscopic X-ray images and an investigation of 3-D imaging systems having
rotational motion.
