What Pine Is: VMS Pine Documentaiton for UNIWhat Pine IsPine is an electronic mail program you may use instead of the email program most people have used on Cobra/Viper in the past, VMS Mail. Pine is now available to everybody with a VMS (Cobra/Viper) account.Whichever program you use, you will be able to see any messages received with VMS Mail and exchange messages with all of the same people. The main difference is that Pine has additional features and different commands. FeaturesPine uses menusWhen you start Pine, you will notice that there are menu options rather than just a prompt. To use an option select it by moving up and down the menu using your computer's arrow keys and press the Enter key or press the letter displayed on the left of the desired option.Pine displays a list of available commandsAcross the bottom of any Pine window, there is a list of commands you can use. The list changes depending on what you are doing at the time.Pine has an address book.One of the options off the main menu (the first menu you see when you start Pine) is Address Book. This is an easy way of saving e-mail addresses and creating mailing lists.Pine can be used to read Usenet News.The name, Pine, is an acronym for "Program for Internet News and Email."
