VESA releases Plug and Display standard
NEWS
VESA (Video Electronic Standards Association)
has released a Plug and Display standard that describes a
new connector standard allowing you to use the same type
of connector to hot plug standard CRT monitors and LCD
displays. The standard is intended to reduce costs and
open a pathway for LCD display technology on the desktop.
OPINION
Standard CRT monitors receive analog signals which
allow for various types of interference on the monitor
screen. LCD monitors are inherently digital, and thus we
won't have to worry as much about poorly shielded monitor
cables. The problem now with LCD monitors is that the
digital signal that your video card turns to analog must
be changed back to digital to display. The new connectors
will allow a straight-through-digital path for LCD
monitors, eliminating two conversions along the way.
