Latest weblinks

etc: quick links to good stuff This has been one of my favorite sites for a long time. I visit daily and there are is normally always a new link to something interesting. Zero Punctuation Game Reviews (NSFW) This has to be one of the funniest series of web videos I have seen in a long time. They are comic game reviews which are really funny, but at the same time really give good insight into the games. Very well written reviews and comedy, well worth a look. Be warned though, more adult content, not safe for kids or work. PSDTuts - Photoshop Tutorials This is a relatively new Photoshop tutorial site, but it stands out from the rest due to the quality and originality of the tutorials posted. I visit this site all the time to see what new tutorials are posted. Penny Arcade This is a web comic for adults that is really funny. It's a lot of fun and a great read if you like their humor. :) Google Reader Google Reader is a great feed aggregator that allows you to read articles from many websites all in one place. Hamachi Hamachi is really cool program that allows you to create an encrypted lans which can be accessed over the internet. You can install it on your work and home computers then create a virtual lan so you can share files, printers, play games, etc all over the internet. Window Sizer This is a really cool little app that lets you pre-define window sizes and placement, and then apply those pre-sets to any open window. IE4Linux This is a nice little script that sets up IE to run in Linux using Wine. Gnome Art Found this site when setting up Gnome for the first time. Really love how you just drag the theme from the website and drop it onto the theme manager to install it. Gnome Dock A pretty new project that aims to provide MacOSX Dock like functionality for the Gnome Desktop in Linux.

Windows Vista 64 Bit: A Sad Tell of Woe

When Vista first came out I jumped on-board and decided to give it a try. I bought the Ultimate edition just because it sounded the best, and installed it. After fighting the OS to make it do what it is meant to do out of the box, I decided to go back to XP. I put the problems down to early bugs.Six month later Vista SP1 is released and I decided to really give vista a try a second time. The install went a bit easier because I remembered most of the tricks I had used before. This time however I was in for the long haul and was determined to make things work the best I could. This decision ended up causing me a lot of headaches. Submitted by nick on Mon, 2008-06-30 21:02. » read more

Pixeloo

I recently saw the Super Real Mario pic linked too from digg.com, but never explored the rest of the site until today.Pixeloo is a new blog where "Pixeloo" posts some of his/her work for all to see. The latest post of Jessica Rabbit was just amazing and I thought it deserved a link. I also have been using Photoshop for a long time now, and I think people who use Photoshop have a greater appreciation for the images like this. Very well executed. Wiimote VR Screen

This movie has been out for a month, but I just found it. It's a really cool demo of how positional technologies like the Wiimote can help provide very immersive environments through a flat screen.I was quite impressed when he started up the demo. Submitted by nick on Thu, 2008-01-24 16:34.

Macworld 2008

After returning my Dell M1330 last year I have been cautiously shopping for a new laptop. Macworld 08 has always been on my mind, because I am always wondering what they might announce this year that will make my purchase look like a piece of junk. After seeing some new photos of the Moscone Center and new banners I am starting to think the rumors of an ultra portable Macbook with WiMax are looking more accurate. "There's Something in the Air" seems to imply a "new" WiFi technology, and the new laptop seems to fit the bill pretty well.Anyway, I am looking forward to the keynote and to see what Steve has up his sleeve. Vitalic - OK Cowboy

Recently I have been moving away from electronic music, and have been listening to more rock based music. This is mostly due the lack of good original electronic music releases over the past few years. However after hearing a Poney by Vitalic on a YouTube video I decided to pick up the whole album, and was glad that I did.OK Cowboy by Vitalic contains some of the best electronic music I have heard in a long time, and I have listened to the whole album several times since buying it.Poney (Part 1), Wooo, Trashion, and The Past are my favorite tracks. The others are still good, but these four tracks make the album a good buy. These days if I get three good tracks from an album I am pretty happy. Canon Prixma iP4500

A few weeks back I bought the Canon Prixma iP4500 and I am really liking it. Since receiving the printer I have been using it nearly everyday for several weeks and none of the ink tanks have had to be replaced. This was a pretty big deal for me.In a printer I was looking for a cheap unit that would produce decent color prints, but would also print lots of black pages without needed new ink every week. So far this printer has been great. Using regular 20lb paper the color output is not good, a lot of the prints get a little blurry as the paper soaks up the ink dots. However when using photo paper, or just higher quality smooth paper the image quality is excellent. Submitted by nick on Sun, 2007-12-23 07:21. » read more

GMail Increasing Storage?

I have noticed over the past couple of weeks that the GMail storage on my account has been going up very quickly. In the past the counter on the login page has been going up slowly, and was more of a gimmick. But in the last week or so I noticed the total storage capacity jumped up from 2.9GB to just over 3GB. Then this morning I logged in and it's at 3.35GB's.That may not sound like a lot by todays standards, but when you multiply nearly 0.5GB by all the GMail users you can see that Google is making significant push to add more storage. I wonder if this could be a prelude to an announcement that could rival Yahoo!'s recent move to unlimited storage?UPDATE 12/22/07: Looks like Google really was increasing the storage. Ever since this post the storage on GMail has been going up much faster than in the past. Currently my account is quickly approaching 6GB. Still not unlimited like Yahoo!, but obviously Yahoo! does not really provide unlimited storage for every user. It's more of a marketing gimmick. I actually respect Google a little more for not jumping in and saying the same thing.
