What is Happy?

Happy is a parser generator system for Haskell, similar to the tool`yacc' for C. Like `yacc', it takes a file containing an annotated BNFspecification of a grammar and produces a Haskell module containing a parserfor the grammar.Happy is flexible: you can have several Happy parsers in the sameprogram, and several entry points to a single grammar. Happy can workin conjunction with a lexical analyser supplied by the user (eitherhand-written or generated by another program), or it can parse astream of characters directly (but this isn't practical in mostcases). As of version 1.5, Happy is capable of parsing full Haskell. Wehave a Haskell parser that uses Happy, which will shortly be part of thelibrary collection distributed with GHC.The current public version of Happy is 1.17, which was released on22 October 2007. However, more recent snapshots of the Happy sourcecode can be obtained from the darcs repository:   darcs get http://darcs.haskell.org/happy/Feel free to hack on Happy and darcs send me your patches.

Downloading Happy

To compile Happy from source, you'll need GHCversion 5.04 or later.Source distributionWe also have binary distributions for various platforms:Windows: a binarydistribution is available, just unzip and go.Ubuntu users: packages should be available from the universe repository.Debian GNU/Linux users: packages are available hereRPMs for other versions of Linux can be built directly from the source, using rpmbuild -ta.FreeBSD/x86 users: Happy is in the ports tree, so either pkg_add -rhs-happy, or install it from the ports tree in/usr/ports/devel/hs-happy.OpenBSD users: Happy is in the -current ports tree, you can install it from /usr/ports/devel/happy.The following binaries are for older versions of Happy:Sparc/Solaris2(version 1.13)HP-PA (HPUX) (version 1.10)
