This document describes new TSO/ISPF features and provides the recommended setup instructions for TSO/ISPF sessions. ISC recommends that you first familiarize yourself with the new features and functions. Once you are familiar with the new features, execute the setup instructions. Relevant sections of this document are: New TSO/ISPF Features Action Bars Point-and-Shoot Fields Action Bars Within Edit (Option 2) Sort Features View and Browse TSO/ISPF Setup Instructions Moving the Command Line Removing the PF-Key Display Removing Underscores on Panels Displaying the Calendar Change the View Entry panel to default to Browse Removing the Recovery Warning Set Log and List Defaults Set IOF Defaults Macintosh users: Please substitute any instruction to right-click your mouse as follows: move your cursor to the field or option being described and press Enter.

New TSO/ISPF Features

Please familiarize yourself with the TSO/ISPF features described in this section. New terminology is introduced, enhanced features are explained, and examples are provided for you to follow. You'll want to understand the new terminology and features before performing the setup instructions. Scrolling Note: Scrolling on ISPF Panels is possible whenever you see "MORE +" or "MORE -" in the upper right corner of your panel. "MORE +" indicates you can scroll down (PF8) "MORE -" indicates you can scroll up (PF7) Action BarsAction Bars are choices that appear at the top of a panel. They provide an alternative to navigation within ISPF. When you select an Action Bar, ISPF displays a pull-down menu. The pull-down menu will contain a list of choices that extend from the Action Bar you selected. Some of the pull-down menu's choices will contain an ellipsis (...), which means that selecting that choice will display a pop-up window instead of a full panel. Pop-up windows are bordered and display over another panel. Pressing Enter will not close a pop-up window. You must Exit (PF3) or Cancel (PF12) from pop-up windows. There are several ways to select an Action Bar, for example: Place your cursor directly before (or on top of) the action bar's text and press Enter. Right-click the action bar's text with your mouse. Once a pull-down menu is open, pressing Enter will automatically select the first choice (1) in the list. To select an alternative, type the number of the choice and press Enter. To close a pull-down menu without making a selection: Move your mouse pointer outside the pull-down menu area and right-click. Press PF10 (Actions) or PF12 (Cancel); PF10 cannot be used to close a pull-down menu while editing a data set within Option 2. Navigation feature: PF10 will toggle your cursor between Action Bars & the command line. Point-and-Shoot FieldsPoint-and-shoot fields are cursor sensitive text fields. If you right-click a point-and-shoot field, the action it describes is executed. The action itself can be a single command or a string of commands. Try the examples below. Example 1 Type =3.1 and press Enter Type in the name of your ISPF Library. If you do not have an ISPF Library or cannot remember the name, temporarily use the PDS below: Project P790635 Group YURI Type CLIST Right click your mouse anywhere on the text "Data set Information." You should now see the Data Set Information panel displayed (it lists General Data, Current Allocation, and Current Utilization). Press PF3 (or right-click anywhere on the panel) to exit back to Option 3.1. Example 2 Type COLOR at the command line on any panel, then press Enter. Change any of the colors (e.g., BLUE to RED and GREEN to WHITE), then press Enter. To return your colors to their original defaults, either place your cursor anywhere on the word "Defaults" in the upper right corner of your screen and press Enter, OR right-click anywhere on the word "Defaults." The cursor-sensitive portion of the point-and-shoot field often extends past the text itself. Until you become more familiar with this new feature, you can temporarily display these fields in reverse video to make them easily recognizable. To set reverse video:Type PSCOLOR on the command line, then press Enter.For the Point-and-Shoot panel element only, change NONE in the HIGHLIGHT column to REVERSE.To see the effect, press PF3 to exit 3.1 and then type =3.1 to re-enter. Action Bars within Edit (Option 2)Action Bars are available after you have entered a member set in EDIT (Option 2). They allow greater flexibility and new functions. The Action Bars are: The File Action Bar can be used to Save or Cancel during your Edit session. The Edit Action Bar can used to Reset, Undo, or Hilite. Reset functionality has not changed. Undo is a new command that reverses the most recent changes made. Undo only works with Recovery On. Hilite lets you customize highlighting for each programming language. Right-click on Hilite and you will be taken to a panel where you can personalize your Edit Color choices. The Compilers Action bar is used to select program compilers from an ISPF panel. These panels are not yet configured. If you select and execute a compile request, you will receive "MODULE NOT FOUND" messages. The Test Action Bar is used for Dialog testing. This new function has some flexible features, such as defining your own Break Points, but not enough research has been completed to create usage tips or recommendations.Sort Features Members of a PDS can be sorted using the cursor-sensitive column field. For example: Type =2 and press Enter. Press Enter again to display the member list for your PDS. Place your cursor on the CREATED column heading and press Enter or right-click the CREATED column heading. The member list is now displayed in descending create-date order. CREATED is now your primary sort column. The LOCATE (L) command is always associated with the primary sort column. If you wish to locate a member by name, re-sort using the name column before issuing the LOCATE command. Here is how to make NAME your permanent sort order: Type =3.1 and press Enter Press Enter to display a Member List of your PDS Right-Click on "Functions" Action Bar Select Initial Sort View (3) Enter 1 in both columns (you probably have 6?) View and BrowseView is a new function. View lets you edit a dataset and make changes within the dataset, but will not let you save the dataset with its original name. When you attempt to exit after updating a dataset, a pop-up window will appear with the View Warning Message. The warning asks if you want to Exit without saving changes. It also prompts you to use the CREATE or REPLACE command to save the member to another name.Many panels now offer both View and Browse options. The Option 1 panel defaults to View -- not Browse as it used to do. In Option 3.1 notice that you can now select View (V) as a new function.

TSO/ISPF Setup Instructions

When you first enter a TSO/ISPF session, you will find that panels display basic IBM defaults. Follow the instructions below to modify your screen display. Your new configuration and setup options will automatically be saved when you log off.Move the Command Line to the Top of the Screen Select the "Menu" action bar from the ISPF Primary Menu Select "Settings" from the pull-down menu Set the ISPF settings as follows:_ Command line at bottom_ Panel display CUA mode_ Long message in pop-up_ Tab to action bar choices_ Tab to point-and-shoot fields/ Restore TEST/TRACE options/ Session Manager mode/ Jump from leader dots_ Edit PRINTDS Command/ Always show split line Press PF3 to exit Tip: You can also type Settings from any screen to bring up the settings panel.Remove the PF-Key Display Select the "Menu" action bar from the ISPF Primary Menu Select "Settings" from the pull-down menu Select Function Keys from Settings action bar Type "6" (Remove function key display) Press Enter Press PF3 to exit Tip: You can also type PFSHOW from any screen to see Pfkey displays. You can modify your Pfkeys by typing ZKEYS from any screen.Remove Underscores on Panels Select the "Menu" action bar from the ISPF Primary Option Menu Select "Settings" from the pull-down menu Select Colors/CUA Attributes (2) from the Settings action bar Scroll to the next page Modify 'Normal Entry Field" by entering NONE in Highlight column Press PF3 to exit Tip: You can also type CUAATTR from any panel to go directly to CUA Attributes.Display the Calendar Select the "Status" action bar from the ISPF Primary Option Menu Select Calendar (3) from the pull-down menu Press Enter All fields on the calendar are point-and-shoot fields that function as follows: Click the right bracket ( > ) and the months go forward Click the left bracket ( < ) and the months go backwards Click the month (e.g. February) and the Calendar Month pop-up lets you specify the month to be displayed Click the year (e.g., 1998) and the Calendar Year pop-up lets you specify the year to be displayed Click Saturday, Sunday, or Monday to specify the start day for your calendar week Click any Day (e.g., Mo, Tu, We) to display the Start-Day pop-up Click any number in the month and the Julian Date pop-up displays (but you cannot enter anything in this pop-up) Click "Time" to display the pop-up for 12 or 24 hour format Click "Day of Year" to translate the Julian Date to a standard date (ccyy/mm/dd) The colors of the calendar can be changed, for example: Select the Menu action bar. Select Status Area (9) from the list. Select the Options action bar (on the Status Area pop-up). Select Calendar colors (2). Select 2 (Red) for Heading Date and Current Day, then press Enter. You'll see your changes immediately on the sample calendar. After modifying the colors, Press PF3 twice to exit the two pop-ups You must now exit the Main Menu for your color choices to be displayed. Go to another option and then return to the Main Menu.Change the View Entry panel (Option 1) to default to Browse Type =1 and press Enter. Scroll or tab down (press PF8). Place a slash (/) in front of the "Browse Mode" option. Remove the Warning for Recovery The following sequence of commands will set RECOVERY OFF. With recovery set to off, the "UNDO not available" message will not be displayed Type =2 and press Enter. Edit any dataset or PDS member. At the Command line type rec off nowarn. Press Enter. Set Log/List DefaultsThe Log dataset used by ISPF should be deleted at the end of each session.To delete the log: Select the Menu action bar from the ISPF Primary Option Menu Select "Settings" from the pull-down list Select Log/List action bar from ISPF Settings panel Select "Log Data Set Defaults" (1) and enter:Process option 2SYSOUT class ALocal Printer ID blankLines per page 60Primary pages 1Secondary pages 1Log Message ID blank PF3 to exitThe List dataset used by Option 3.1 should be printed before it isdeleted. The new instructions are provided below. Type =i. to get to the IOF Menu P from the IOF Option Menu allows you to set default characteristics. SAVEPROF entered on the COMMAND line on the IOF Menu will save the defaults that you type in for JOBNAMES, SCOPE, and DEST. Tab down to SCOPE and type P790010 (do not press ENTER) Press the HOME key on the keyboard to move the cursor to the COMMAND line Type SAVEPROF You now have your SCOPE option set to default across IOF sessions. Whenever you use IOF, the SCOPE option will remain set to P790010 (shows jobs by this user). You can also enter something in JOBNAMES and DEST and then use the SAVEPROF command to permanently save the values. Instead of using the SAVEPROF, you can also enter default options by using the COMMAND line at the top of the IOF Menu type scope all on COMMAND line press ENTER You have saved the value of ALL in your profile for SCOPE. It will be used across IOF sessions. To turn SCOPE back to blank, type 'scope' and press ENTER. type prefix iebgener on COMMAND line press ENTER You have saved IEBGENER as your JOBNAMES default. Just remember to use the word prefix instead of jobnames on the COMMAND line whenever you are setting JOBNAMES defaults. To turn the prefix off, type prefix and press ENTER. type dest local on COMMAND line press ENTER. Destination numbers, remote numbers, and routing destinations can be used in this field. Separate multiple destinations by commas or spaces (e.g. dest local,remote9) To review the new features for a release: type NEW on COMMAND line from the IOF Menu and press ENTER It is recommended that you familiarize yourself with the Job List Menu Commands by accessing the Quick Trainer (QT) option. type qt on COMMAND line from IOF Menu and press ENTER type 6 to select Index of IOF Features and press ENTER type 2 to access documentation on available IOF commands All Operations staff should read and review documentation on DEVICES and CONSOLE: type qt on COMMAND line from IOF Menu and press ENTER type 6 to select Index of IOF Features and press ENTER type 9 to access and review documentation on DEVICES (return to index of major IOF functions) type 11 to access and review documentation on CONSOLE
