Indeed, these languages have beensuccessfully applied to vastly different real-world situations, rangingfrom data base management to active networks to software engineering todecision support systems, to  mention a few examples. The major strength of declarative languages lies in the way work onefficient implementation has allowed programmers to take advantage of theirstrong theorical foundations. In fact, new developments in theory and implementationoften open up new application areas. On the other hand, as declarativelanguages are applied to novel problems, a number of interesting researchissues arise. Well-known such questions include designing for scalability, language extensions for application deployment, and programming environments. Thus, applications are both a cause for and benefit from progress in thetheory and implementation of declarative systems. The PADL'00 series of workshops aims atproviding a forum where researchers, practitioners, and implementors ofdeclarative languages may exchange ideas on current and novel applicationareas and on the requirements for effective deployment of declarative systems. Thus, we invite papers dealing with practical applications of newly discoveredresults and techniques in logic, constraint, and functional programming.Papers dealing with practical applications of theoretical results, newimplementation techniques, or innovative applications are particularlywelcome. Position papers as well as papers that present work-in-progressare also welcome. PADL'00 builds on the success of the FirstWorkshop on Practical Aspects of Declarative Programming, held in SanAntonio. Scope of PADL includes, but is not limited to: Innovative ApplicationsPractical Applications of Theoretical ResultsDeclarative Languages and the InternetDeclarative Languages and Software EngineeringDeclarative Languages and Software Enabled ControlDeductive Database SystemsDeclarative Languages for Specification and VerificationPractical ExperiencesInnovative Implementation/Compilation TechniquesAuthors may submit an electronic copy of the full paper, in English, tothe email address below (preferred), or submit six copies of the paperto the postal address below. The paper should reach by August20th, 1999. Papers must be no longer than 15 pages, written in 12point font and with single spacing. Each copy of the submission must includeon an extra sheet the paper title, authors and their affiliations, contactinformation, an abstract, and three to four keywords. Each paper will bereviewed. Authors will be notified by  September29th, 1999. Camera ready copies will be due by October23th, 1999.  The proceedings will be published as LectureNotes in Computer Science by Springer Verlag. The proceedings willappear as Volume 1753 of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Contact AddressEnrico PontelliDepartment of Computer ScienceScience Hall, Stewart StreetNew Mexico State UniversityLas Cruces, NM 88003-0001Ph: +1 (505) 646 6239Fax: +1 (505) 646-1002 email: complog@cs.nmsu.eduSponsored by COMPULOGAMERICAS and the Associationfor Logic ProgrammingIn Cooperation with ACM SIGPLAN
