pmooney.netView from a conferenceCategory Conference Really bad photo of a really nice viewfrom the rooftop of the BoscoloPark Hotel in Nice. GSXlaid on a networking lunch on the rooftop before the afternoon begins. Kicking off is MaryBeth Raven with an 8.5 updatesession. I smell a daily build being used!....Posted by Paul Mooney At 13:11:41 Location | Permalink| Comments (0)| TrackBacks (0)New ACL tool availableCategory MiscVersion 0.2 available on the resourcespage. The GSX seminar begins and is shaping up to be a great event. Tomorrow, I will be presenting a version of Worst Practices (admin stuffonly, so I'm in hog heaven - sorry Bill). Mary Beth Raven will bepresenting on the new goodness and fantastic UI improvements with Notes8.5. I already know I will be asking her about client side performanceimprovements and citrix stuff.Recently we all got talking about vendorsthat we just like to work with, not only for their products, but also forthe people and their style and commitment. GSX, Integra, Teamstudio,HADSL are but a few that come to my mind, although there are many more. If I could avoid being sued, I would love to setup a "cool wall"of third party products, were we can vote on products we like, and commenton them (gee... I wonder what product I would use for on-line voting andcommenting....). If you think it is a good idea, feel free to commentand if you have any ideas on how we could stop slanderous statements orvote manipulation, please let me know!Posted by Paul Mooney At 15:00:18 Location | Permalink| Comments (2)| TrackBacks (0)The mail file ACL changing tool is revisedCategory AdminVersion 1.1 of the ACL manipulator toolwill be released in the next few days. This will hopefully includethe ability to manipulate roles. I just have to test it before publishing. If you have no idea what I am on about, click here.Posted by Paul Mooney At 21:57:20 Location | Permalink| Comments (0)| TrackBacks (0)What does your work environment look like?Category MiscChatting with Susan Bulloch and Jamie Magee,we thought it would be fun to post our office space, where we do most ofour work. Well, lining myself up for a kicking, here is mine. WhenI am not on site, I typically work from home. My beloved Mac is tied to a 20Inch screen,NAS, and two other servers below to the right, printer, scanner, two routers,a hub, VOIP box, plant, fish tank and punch bag (required). So... if you have a blog ... take apic and post.Posted by Paul Mooney At 21:50:18 Location | Permalink| Comments (4)| TrackBacks (0)iNotes Ultralite on firefoxCategory iPhone iNotesOk, this is going to sound dumb. Ichose iNotes ultralite instead of iNotes lite when accessing webmail afew minutes ago. And do you know what, it was great! Even fasterthe iNotes lite, this gave me exactly what I needed, access to read email. Blisteringly fast over a crappy link. I know this is totallynot using a product for its intended purpose, but thought I would sharethe event. Give it a go!Update: Ed pointed outthis is in ND85 beta only at the moment. A view from the inside (ish)Category Lotusphere2009Last year GabriellaDavis and I got talking aboutthe limitations of the Hands on sessions. Having presented one inthe past (on integration of portal with domino), it was frustrating forthe instructors and the delegates that we could only offer limited seats,as the logistics of having laptops for hundreds of people, and managedVMs were a veritable nightmare. We discussed this with one of the organisersof Lotusphere (Kristin Keene) and suggested an alternative session type, where there are no laptops at all but the session topics, speakers, andformat are aimed as classroom-type session. Nine months later andthe "new kid on the block" is born, the SNT track. Thetrack manager for this is Christian Holsing. And today we can makepublic that Gab and I have been asked to assist in session selection. Veryquickly, Gab and I are starting to get a new found respect for the workdone from the inside, with regards to track selection. There havebeen lots (I'm not sure if I can release the numbers yet) of submissions, and we have a lot of work to do in choosing the ones that will work thebest. I come from a technical teaching background and Gab, well,em knows everything so we should be able to help out.So, what type of session are we lookingfor? The SNT track is different to the othertracks. For example, the infrastructure track, you can demo/discusssomething new and funky, same goes for the dev track. In the strategysessions, you can bore people to death and in the BP track you (read: Billand I) can rant and rave and impartreal world knowledge. The SNT track is very simple. Considerit a classroom. You, as a speaker are to teach a topic from startto finish, very very well. Your documentation should be good enoughthat people can do it themselves, step by step, when you are gone. Itdoesn't have to be something new. It just has to be something thatpeople may find difficult, and you believe that you can teach fully, andimpart full knowledge. This makes it a very challenging session. I can imagine that the slide deck on a session like this would beat least 100 slides (in a session I submitted, the first slide is "turnon computer"), so the work required by a speaker in advance of sphereis going to be intense.Over the next few weeks, Gab and I willsay what we can about the track, and if you have questions about it, feelfree to contact us or comment here. Of course, one thing we are NOTgoing to do is discuss selection of sessions, so don't bother trying (Kristinhas outlined what will happen to us if we do, and it aint pleasant).Posted by Paul Mooney At 21:17:33 Location | Permalink| Comments (3)| TrackBacks (0)About meResourcesAmazon wish listIBM / LotusAlan LepofskyAndrew KellyAndrew PollackAndy DonaldsonBarry HughesBen PooleBill BuchanBilyksprideBrian MahoneyBruce ElgortBruce PerryCarl TylerChris ByrneChris LinfootChris MillerChristopher HarveyCode StoreDave McKeandDec's Dom BlogDevin "Spanky" OlsonEd BrillFerdy ChristantFrancie WhitlockFrank DohertyGreyHawk68Jack DausmanJamie MageeJoe LittonJonVonJustin KnolKathleen McGivneyKevin Pettitt!Lotus GeekLotus User GroupMad JunkMatt and JessMatt WhiteMs DoyleNathan FreemanNotesGirl.comRichard SchwartzRob NovakRob "Captain Oblivious" McdonaghSean BurgessSpuggyStarfishSusan Bulloch (NotesGoddess)The Gutted GeekThomas DuffTim ClarkTony KelleranTurtleWarren ElsmoreOtherKittyThe Life of Brian (Clancy)Various TechPeter de HassRay OzzieRobert ScoobleThe other "Paul Mooney"The RegisterVolker Webervar sc_project=1003381; var sc_invisible=0; var sc_partition=9; var sc_security="177ee51d"; _uacct = "UA-878720-1";urchinTracker(); - pmooney@pmooney.netOctober 2008September 2008August 2008July 2008June 2008May 2008April 2008March 2008February 2008January 2008Full Archive |
