The Scout Operating System Overview Scout is a communication-oriented operating system targeted at network appliances (e.g., network-attached devices, set-top boxes, hand-held devices, and so on). Click here for an overview of Scout. Demonstrations We are building a variety of network appliances in Scout. These include: NetTV NetCAM IP Router w/ QoS Support HTTP Firewall Swarm Server Web Server Joust (a small, fast JavaOS) Software Scout currently runs stand-alone on Digital Alpha and Intel Pentium processors. It is hosted from Linux using GNU tools. Scout includes source code derived from GNU libraries, Linux device drivers, Bellcore's MGR window manager, and the x-kernel.
