SummerOver the coming weeks I will aim to add more tutorials to the website as and when I get some free time. Being slightly inundated with work is a bit of a hindrance when it comes to these things but rest assured it hasn't been forgotten about! Posted by Joe on 06.08.07. Apologies for the absenceMy sincerest apologies for the long absence, I know it has been a very long time since my last contribution to this website but rest assured it has not been forgotten about. It has become clear to me that integrating contact forms into web sites isn’t as easy as it appears; there are many security factors to take into account. This was made clear to me when checking my emails and discovering over 1 thousand spam emails bombarding my Inbox. So I took it upon myself to learn a little more and protect both myself and other users in the same predicament, stumbling across in the process, this website: http://www.securephpwiki.com/index.php/Email_Injection This should be a valid resource to you all. Although now it needs to be implemented into my current contact form and tested, which I will be working on over the next week or so. Added: And as an extra bonus I've found the following site: http://www.tutorialtastic.co.uk/tutorial/php_mail_form_secure_and_protected Posted by Joe on 14.04.07. Site Preferences PanelI'm sure most people during they're time as web designers has wished that they could let the user interactively change different aspects of the website they have designed. It is very useful for accessibility uses also. The only problem being is that JavaScript is mostly needed to accomplish this, and not all people browse the internet with JS turned on, but for those that do, they will get a lot more interactivity out of the sites they visit. For those of you who are interested in adding a site preferences panel to your website, an excellent blog has been written over at bioneural.net; http://www.bioneural.net/2006/05/11/adding-a-site-preferences-panel/ Posted by Joe on 13.05.06. Thanks AOL!http://postmaster.info.aol.com/faq/port25faq.html To help deter the sending of spam from AOL's network, we have begun blocking outgoing connections on port 25. AOL have decided to block my mainly used means of communication, all because of spammers. I sent them an email ages ago complaining about this but received nothing. Why have they blocked me from sending mail and not actual spammers? Spammers such as; jrubin3546@aol.com PeiCanteenMc@aol.com homerragtime@aol.com homeigoldstein@aol.com Whether open relays or just compromised computers, I still recieved much spam from these addresses from my Feedback forms until I decided to add more security to them. And now AOL are blocking me? Where is the justice? Posted by Joe on 23.03.06. JavaScript TutorialsGood news everyone ... there are finally some JavaScript tutorials in my previously empty JS section. A big thanks to Gunny for submitting these tutorials, they are much appreciated. Posted by Joe on 05.03.06. The Art of Website DesigningAn extremely interesting article by Waleed Zuberi. If content is the king, consistency in content and design is the queen. Dictionary describes consistency as anything "in agreement with itself, reliable and steady." In the internet world, this should apply to a website. This means that a website design should be in agreement with itself, reliable and steady. In short, it should be consistent. Read the full article here. Posted by Joe on 22.01.06. New Year 2006!A happy new year to you all! I should hopefully start adding content again quite soon. My Open University courses are now finished, awaiting results so I now have a bit more free time on my hands to get back into 'webbing'. I shall also be revising current scripts, improving the code, and adding new features to them. Something which I have been meaning to do for quite a while now. Posted by Joe on 19.01.06. Busy SeasonThe busy season is upon us ... as if you hadn't noticed. The time for play is over and the time for hard work is here, or at least until Christmas anyway. I won't be around much but I will try to keep things updated as often as I possibly can. For those of you who live in the Wales area (or want to visit), a good place to visit at the moment would be Cardiff's Winter Wonderland 2005 for some ice skating, it's a lot of fun! I myself will be going there this weekend, hope to see you there. As Christmas is coming, I will see if I can get a Winter theme knocked up for the site, get everyone in the spirit. If you have any suggestions or ideas don't hesitate to contact me, I will reply to all emails. As for tutorials, I have begun work on bigger and bigger projects, which means tutorials would be much more difficult to construct, so there may be a rise in the amount of pre-written scripts for download, depending on the size and complexity of the script. Those of you who have ever visited Weborum may have seen the only tutorial I have ever written which is not on this site, for those of you who haven't seen it ... here's the link; Joe2Torials Image Gallery (GD) I hope you all enjoy it. Don't forget, if you use any of my scripts and want to show me the end results feel free to pop me a link in the post and show me. Posted by Joe on 29.11.05. Joe2Torials V4.0 Launched. After many months of hard coding, deliberation and integration I have finally constructed my Content Management System and it is now the backend of my newly designed site. I can only apologise for the long time of neglect, but I have added a few new tutorials for you to dig into and I have also created 2 brand spanking new categories which I hope to start contributing to very soon. As with any new design or backend there may be a few teething problems with compatibility on certain browsers or resolutions. I have done my best to iron out all errors and problems that I have come across, but I am only one man, and I'm not able to find every problem in one go what with having to sleep and eat all the time ... yes I know, just a mere mortal. All my tutorials 1should now conform to XHTML 1.1 ... a long awaited upgrade for Joe2Torials. So what exactly have I done that's so new and special? Well ... now my site is entirely database driven it leaves me open to soon create a site search. All my CSS has been updated, all font sizes are now in percentages helping those in different resolutions. I have now added the ability for you to print my tutorials and articles with a print stylesheet and separate printing page for content ... you'll find out soon enough. Plus loads more little extras. Many thanks to the user zirak at http://www.sxc.hu/ for giving me the permission to use his fantastic stock photograph for my new header. Looks great, don't you agree? Please feel free to contact me on your opinions and thoughts about the new design and backend. If you have any suggestions on new tutorials, updates, edits or if there is something you'd like to see here don't hesitate to let me know. Enjoy! 1 I say 'should' as I haven't had a chance to validate all tutorials yet. If you find a tutorial that doesn't validate feel free to shout at me about it. Posted by Joseph Skidmore on 13.09.05.
