DARPA - Grand Challenge Carnegie Mellon University's team called Tartan Racing (Pittsburg, PA) won the $2 million first prize in the DARPA Urban Challenge. The race was held at Victorville, California on November 3, 2007. In second place was the Stanford Racing Team of Stanford University (Stanford, CA) - taking home the $1 million second prize. DSTA (Defense Science and Technology Agency) has announced a robot competition called the Tech X Challenge, to take place in 2008. Rules. The only drawback is that the team leader (but not the team members) must be a resident of Singapore. You must submit your proposal by May 31, 2007. Robot limitations are 150 Kg and 2 m/s speed. The robot needs to walk up stairs, use an elevator, find a target, mark it, and retrace its route back to the starting point all in under one hour. Robotex, based in Palo Alto, California has introduced a new killer robot for the military. This little killer sports two Assault 12-gauge shotguns which can fire at up to 300 rounds per minute. The video shows an android cop patrolling in a poor part of town near Johannesburg, South Africa. It shows the android running, driving a patrol car, and shooting guns. Fantastic!
