About DISAL
The Distributed Intelligent Systems and Algorithms Laboratory (DISAL) has been founded in May 2008. DISAL is affiliated with the National Center of Competence in Mobile Communication and Information Systems, the EPFL Integrated Systems Center, the EPFL Space Center, and the EPFL Transportation Center. Among other research activities, DISAL has inherited those of the Swarm-Intelligent Systems Group (SWIS), founded in September 2003 at EPFL, and those of the Collective Robotics Group (CORO) founded in December 1999 at the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, U.S.A.
DISAL's research mission focuses on the development of (automatic) design, modeling, control, and optimization methodologies for distributed, intelligent systems. A special emphasis is currently set on real-time, embedded systems such as multi-robot platforms, sensor and actuators networks, and intelligent vehicles.
DISAL's teaching mission is three-fold. First, to disseminate methods and techniques used to synthesize and analyze embedded and real-time systems into the areas of civil and environmental engineering as well as architecture and design. Second, to disseminate state-of-the-art methods and techniques developed by DISAL or other laboratories around the world to synthesize and analyze distributed, intelligent systems. Third, to contribute to the education of a new generation of interdisciplinary engineers and computer scientists who are interested in enviromental, civil, or architectural applications.
News
2008-10-04 Two research assistants of DISAL were awarded for their excellent work during their master studies at the Magistrale 2008. Sven Gowal was awarded the Elca Prize for the best final average grade in Computer Science. Loïc Matthey received the prize of the Société Suisse d'Informatique (2nd best average grade in Computer Science) and the Annaheim prize for his master project. Congratulations to both of them!
2008-08-19 We partially moved our location: most of our offices are currently located in the GR building on the EPFL campus. Our move will be completed by early October 2008. Please check individual home pages for the actual location of a given staff member.
2008-07-01 Riccardo Falconi (University of Bologna) joins DISAL for 6 months as visiting PhD student.
