Weather Reports
By Brian Posted on September 19th, 2008 in PSA-Types, Dumb Things That Happen, Time Wasters, Lacking a Category | No Comments »
You know, sometimes the weather report is just too much. You really don’t need to know that theres a 39.8% chance of rain with a standard deviation of 2, that the relative humidity is going to be 60%, and that, in the next hour, its going to change by 3 percent.Instead…umbrella today? tells you a very simple thing. Do you need an umbrella today? It can even send you text messages on the days you need an umbrella (kind of unnecessary).Kind of useless, but heh, on some days, you just don’t want to mess around.Check it out: Umbrellatoday.com
Firefox Extension: Ubiquity
By Brian Posted on September 8th, 2008 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »
Now, we are all crazy about chrome, but theres one main thing I won’t like about chrome until its implemented, and thats extensions. Speaking of which….Firefox extension: Ubiquity. Its an extension that is like launchy for firefox, so that commands can be typed with a few letters instead of clicks or searching. Check out some of the commands on their site, Ubiquitous Interfaces
Google has a browser?!
By Fletcher Posted on September 3rd, 2008 in Google, Software/Hardware Reviews, Tech News | No Comments »
Yes, Google has recently released the beta of its new browser Chrome. It has been designed from the ground up for web applications with a focus on security and performance. Some of the features include a UI with tabs on top, an integrated privacy mode, and a task manager that can monitor and restrict individual tabs and plugins like processes. For more information take a look at the comic book Google produced to explain every aspect of Chrome. I have been using the browser since yesterday, and it does seem to be faster than firefox especially when loading a whole bunch of tabs at the same time. Being that it is still in beta, Chrome is not without some issues. There are reports of some security flaws, even though Chrome is supposed to be more secure than other browsers. I experienced some problem with the controls in flash videos, but this was easily fixed putting the tab in its own window. Chrome still has a lot less features than Firefox, most significant being its lack of extensions. This is something Google is working on, and will perhaps be included in the final release. Even though it will not yet replace firefox, Chrome is a good, albeit minimalistic alternative.

By Brian Posted on August 6th, 2008 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News | No Comments »

Xirrus Wifi Monitor
By Brian Posted on August 3rd, 2008 in For Macs, Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »
This is a widget available as a Yahoo Widget or Vista Sidebar gadget, and it is a nice militaristic looking radar screen. With your settings, it scans for wifi networks. Interestingly enough, it plots the physical location of nearby access points. Very cool. It also gives you statistical data about the point. Its pretty much eyecandy, along with the ease of choosing access points to connect to on an actual physical plot.Check it out: Xirrus.
DropUpLoad
By Brian Posted on July 30th, 2008 in Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »
Seems like we’re just loading you up with software these days DropUpLoad is this nifty tool for people who have ftp space, and let other people use them. You can setup a password/login, package it, and give it to someone. That someone doesn’t need to know your login details or anything, they just press a connect button, and click/drag items into the box. Its a no-frills uploader. Whats nice is that its quick and easy to use. Check it out: DropUpLoad
Taskbar Shuffle
By Brian Posted on July 28th, 2008 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »
We posted a while back of a utility that could do this, but this is a more polished and better looking version. It does help that the instructions are in english It’s 600kb, works on 32 bit windows, no 64 bit .You can now group similar items, settings are stored in a file, making it portable.Check it out: Taskbar Shuffle
FormatFactory
By Brian Posted on July 24th, 2008 in Computer software/hardware, Tech News, Downloads | No Comments »
Here is a cool program like Super that we posted about a very long time ago. While Super is still our favorite converter, it doesn’t do images or some other functions. It’s user interface is also a bit…odd. FormatFactory won’t convert *as* many formats as Super, it can handle images, rip DVDs into video files, and is a bit more easy on the eye. Check it out: FormatFactory
